More than 100 alumni of Northwest Missouri State University and members of the Delta Nu Alumni Association of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity gathered in Maryville June 1-2 for their annual golf tournament and reunion and presented a $1,000 donation to a local non-profit organization.

As part of the alumni group’s Good Neighbor program, the men donated the funding to Lettuce Dream, a social enterprise and hydroponic greenhouse in Maryville that is dedicated to teaching professional skills to young people with cognitive or developmental impairments. Northwest alumna Diane Francis founded Lettuce Dream in 2013, and the organization’s Board includes several University alumni as well as current and retired faculty members.

“Traditionally, our philanthropic efforts have been directed primarily toward the University in various ways, but significant growth in our membership allowed us to expand our efforts in other directions,” Brian Wunder, a 1974 Northwest alumnus and communications chairman for the TKE Delta Nu Alumni Association, said. “As Northwest grads, we all lived in Maryville for several years and the community holds many fond memories for us. The Good Neighbor program was conceived to pay it forward by supporting various non-profit organizations in the city and surrounding area. For our inaugural donation, we felt Lettuce Dream was a wonderful organization for us to be involved with, and we strongly believe in their mission.”

Additionally, the alumni group gathered for its 22nd Annual TKE Delta Nu Memorial Golf Tournament at Mozingo Lake Golf Course and a dinner at the TKE fraternity house, where the chapter inducted five alumni into its Hall of Honor.

This year’s inductees are Keith Jorgensen, Stephen Eckard, the late Bob Cotter, Daniel Canchola and Brad Shelton. The chapter also honored George Paul White, who was inducted into the Hall of Honor last year but could not attend the gathering at that time.

Inductees into the Hall of Honor are selected for contributions to the fraternity or University as alumni, for achieving high distinction in their careers, or in recognition of their military service.
