Minnesota State baseball continues Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play with matchups against Winona State and Southwest Minnesota State. Minnesota State faces Winona State in a doubleheader at 1:30 p.m., on Wednesday in Winona, Minn., before meeting Southwest Minnesota State for a four-game home-and-home weekend series. The series begins with a doubleheader at MSU Baseball Complex at 1:30 p.m., on Saturday, before shifting to Marshall, Minn., for a doubleheader on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

Last Time on the Diamond: The Mavericks (13-4, 8-0 NSIC) remained unbeaten in NSIC play with a four-game sweep (1-0, 2-1, 3-1, 10-3) over Minnesota Duluth on Friday and Sunday. The Mavericks swept two doubleheaders — on Friday night at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minn., and on Sunday afternoon at MSU Baseball Complex.

Winning with Pitching: The Maverick pitching staff continued its dominant start to the 2017 season — recording a 1.41 ERA in the Mavericks' four-game sweep of Minnesota Duluth. The Minnesota State staff recorded 36 strikeouts in 32 innings, a 0.97 WHIP and a .209 batting average against in the series with the Bulldogs. On the season, the Maverick pitching staff ranks third in NCAA DII in both ERA (2.18) and hits allowed per nine innings (6.67), and leads the nation in WHIP (1.02).

K-Machines: The Minnesota State pitching staff has recorded 165 strikeouts in 140-1/3 innings for an average of 10.6 strikeouts per nine innings — the fifth-highest strikeouts per nine innings rate amongst teams in NCAA DII. Junior right-hander Dalton Roach (3-0) leads the Mavericks and the NSIC with 46 strikeouts in 28 innings for an average of 14.79 strikeouts per nine innings — the third-highest strikeouts per nine innings rate in NCAA DII.

Rodning and the Rotation: Junior southpaw Brody Rodning, who leads all NCAA DII pitchers in hits allowed per nine innings (3.38) and is fifth in ERA (0.38) and sixth in WHIP (0.75), earned NSIC Pitcher of the Week honors for the second time this season after tossing a seven-inning complete game shutout against Minnesota Duluth on Friday night at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minn. Joining Rodning in the starting rotation are: junior right-hander Dalton Roach (3-0, 1.29 ERA), senior right-hander Mitchell Bauer (3-0, 2.67 ERA) and junior right-hander NIck Belzer (2-0, 3.32 ERA).

Waldek's Weekend: Junior infielder Luke Waldek had his most-productive series at the plate this season against Minnesota Duluth — going 6-of-14 (.429) with three doubles, a home run, and a .857 slugging percentage. Waldek drove in or scored five of the Mavericks 16 runs over the weekend.

Steal Tycoons: Senior infielder Eric Peterson leads the Mavericks and is tied atop the NSIC with nine stolen bases in 2017. Junior infielder Dylan Dresel is second on the team with three steals, while sophomore outfielder Jordan Hart and freshman utility player Teddy Petersen have two each.

Peterson is two runs scored away from tying the record of 182 — held by Eric Lonquist (1999-2002) — and three runs away from moving into first place.

Scouting Winona State: The Warriors (4-14, 4-4 NSIC) enter the mid-week doubleheader with the Mavericks having lost 3-of-4 home games to Bemidji State on Sunday and Monday (8-3, 2-5, 1-6, 2-4).

Facing the Warriors: Last season, the Mavericks swept a four-game series (6-0, 5-1, 2-1, 4-1) from the Warriors in Winona, Minn.
